Robert Holroyd co-founded CSL in 1999 to develop longer-term horizon real asset investment products in the commodity sector with the objective of delivering portfolio diversification and an inflation hedge. This followed twenty years of prior experience trading in bullion, futures and foreign exchange as a risk manager and Commodity Trading Advisor. The Commodity Strategies Long Only program was launched in 1999. It is an actively managed long-only absolute return commodity portfolio. In 2006 CSL began a research project into the feasibility of launching a long/short program based around existing trading models. The CSL Long Short program began trading in October 2007. In 2010 the firm commenced the process of moving staff and operations to Switzerland. Commodity Strategies was established as part of a strategic decision to move the firm and its operations from Australia to Switzerland to be closer to the markets traded and investors. The beneficial ownership did not change nor did key staff or investment programs. In 2011 CSAG was incorporated as a Swiss limited liability company and progressively trading agreements have been transitioned from CSL to Commodity Strategies. In 2012 Richard Keary joined the firm to run the day-to-day business operations to allow Mr Holroyd to focus most of his time on research and trading.
