CTA Introduction

Carrousel Capital Ltd was founded in London in 2000 by Bruno Sanglé-Ferrière. It is authorised and regulated by the FSA. Following the launch of its Carrousel Fund in 2001, the firm became one of the world’s leading closed-end fund arbitrageurs and activist investors, leading to Bruno’s nomination by EuroHedge magazine for Event-Driven Manager of the Year three times, in 2002, 2003, and 2004. Nonetheless, keen to exploit his trading, mathematical, engineering, and programming backgrounds, Bruno envisaged the development of a global systematic strategy for professional and institutional investors. His vision was shaped by studying the strategies of a range of fund managers, noting their predilection for specialised investment styles that, ultimately, are constrained by their narrow scope in terms of both input (research, data) and output (risk-adjusted returns). Christophe Le Lannou had reached similar conclusions about the heuristic and herding behaviour of most traders. At Bruno’s invitation, he and Lilian Chovin, all of them grandes écoles graduates, joined Carrousel in 2006/ 2007 to develop Centrix IX. The project being so innovative, the infrastructure and software were developed from scratch. The team drew up rules specific to each strategy and asset class based on their experience of financial markets, on fundamental research, and on behavioural theory. After four years’ development and testing, Centrix IX launched in June 2010. The name is derived from the names of the three Parisian écoles from which Bruno, Christophe and Lilian graduated.
